Kingston Symphony Brass (Quintet)
The Kingston Symphony Brass (Quintet), a chamber brass ensemble, was formed to bring eastern Ontario the finest in traditional and contemporary music for brass quintet. The 5-piece group consists of members of the brass section of the Kingston Symphony.
The ensemble is committed to reaching audiences both through a yearly concert season and by providing educational activities in the form of workshops and concerts in schools. The KS Brass serves the immediate communities of Frontenac, Loyalist, and Leeds Counties with its concert series and master classes, and the entire eastern area of the province through tours and concerts in outlying areas. The group's repertoire covers a wide variety of styles, periods, and genres from classical to pop, Baroque to jazz, and actively commissions new works from composers in the community.
During the past 3 years, The KS Brass has done presentations in local elementary and secondary schools. The presentations involved playing for and working with children at particular division levels. Through the kind of assistance we can provide for their teachers, our approach serves the needs of the Ontario Music Curriculum as detailed under 'Specific Expectations.' Our programs address 'Knowledge of Elements, Creative Work, and Critical Thinking.'
The KS Brass has recently performed in St. George's Cathedral with Edward Norman (Director of Music and Organist at St. George's), at the Limestone District School Board's 'Music Day' and in the Music-in-the-Park summer series in Kingston.
